Recently, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group launched their legendry iconic American Muscle cars - Challenger and Charger with new 6.2L supercharged 707 HP V8 engine, also known as HELLCAT. Here are some details I am sharing with all the petro heads here.
The Engine,
Engine is the most powerful production engine in the history of muscle cars. Its a derivative of 6.4L naturally aspirated V8 HEMI, also known as APACHE, which has been around for a while and has proven its metal. However, designers of Hellcat did use Apache as a starting point but they end up changing more than 90% of the engine. The cast iron cylinder block has been redesigned to improve cooling, it makes a hell amount of heat! The crankshaft, pistons, and connecting rods were all modified. Dsplacement reduced from 6.4 to 6.2 liters to increase compression. The heads are completely redisigned to improve airflow, and intake valves are filled with sodium for better cooling (yes they can melt easily).
A 2.38 liter twin scroll supercharger on the top is the key ingredient for "HELLCAT". It boast of tight tolerances for Teaser Video improved efficiency and coated vanes for reduced friction. At the end you get and engine which produces 707 HP and 850 NM of torque. The engine is mated with eight speed ZF transmission, which kind of gives you better fuel economy but who cares, giving the whole system a different level. The shifts are instant, better than manual, and also gives you full control if you choose to shift all by yourself using stearing mounted shifter pedals.
